I bow to the Supreme Lord, whose form is eternal knowledge and bliss, whose earrings swing as He shines in Gokul; who ran from the grinding mortar in fear of mother Yashoda and was caught by her from behind.
Crying, He rubs His frightened eyes again and again with His lotus hands; His breath comes fast and the necklace on His three-lined throat trembles. I bow to Damodar, bound by His devotee's love.
With such childhood pastimes He drowns the people of Gokul in pools of joy, and shows that He is won over by loving devotees, not by those who know Him only in awe. With love I bow to Him again, hundreds of times.
O Lord, giver of every boon, I do not ask for liberation, nor the highest heaven, nor anything else. Only let this form of Yours, the child Gopala, always shine in my heart. What would I do with other boons?
Your lotus face, framed by soft dark curls, kissed again and again by mother Yashoda, Your lips red as the bimba fruit: may this vision always live in my mind. A hundred thousand other gains are nothing to me.
Salutations to You, O Lord Damodar, O Ananta, O Vishnu! Be pleased with me; I am drowning in an ocean of sorrows. Shower Your merciful glance on this helpless, ignorant one, accept me and appear before my eyes.
Just as, while bound to the mortar, You freed Kubera's two sons and blessed them with devotion, please give me Your own loving devotion. O Damodar, I have no longing for liberation.
Salutations to the shining rope that bound You, and to Your belly, the resting place of the whole universe. Salutations to Shri Radhika, Your most beloved, and to You, O Lord of endless pastimes.
